About the treatment:
First treatments always include time for discussing your medical history as it relates to your reason for seeking treatment.
For foot treatments : Shoes and socks are removed – apart from this you remain fully clothed.
Our reclining chair will be setup in a downstairs room or if you have your own recliner and would prefer to use it then that’s perfectly fine. Once you are sitting comfortably wrapped in a blanket for warmth the recliner position is adjusted so that the legs are elevated and the treatment begins.
The particular type of reflexology technique used is a gentle to firm pressure applied with the end of the thumb or fingers rather than a massage. Both feet will be massaged in turn. If any tender areas are noticed then these will be gone over again as they are taken as an indication that the flow of energy is disrupted at that point.
Your feet reflect the general state of health of your body at any particular time. But please note it isn’t possible to diagnose illnesses from treatment.
Premise behind reflexology
Any disturbances in energy flow around your body will be reflected in your feet and massage of your feet can influence the flow of energy around your body.
In the normal run of things your body will cope with most illnesses which you encounter and recuperate if given the conditions and time to be able to do this.
However if you are stressed or your immune system is compromised then you will be more prone to have prolonged or repeated bouts of ill-health. The aim of the treatment is to try to assist the free flow of energy around your body so that your inbuilt healing responses can work freely.
Reflexology treatments are a great way to de-stress.
There are many theories as to why the treatments can be effective ranging from proprioception, Gate Control theory, deep relaxation effect, chinese meridian theory as well as traditional zone theory.
In common with many complementary therapies and some medical treatments there is not a great deal of statistical evidence available on effectiveness or otherwise. This isn’t really surprising when you consider how difficult it would be to standardise all aspects of a treatment so that in a trial each treatment given was exactly the same. It’s not the same as giving someone a measured dose of a drug.
Most people will decide themselves on effectiveness based on how they feel after treatment.
Since stress is a factor in many chronic conditions any treatment which reduces stress is going to be beneficial. So if you are suffering from a chronic condition it’s well trying a short course of treatments.
